Indians, Lincolns, & Buttons-Trying out new Camera, see what you think!

Hello all,

Some of these I've posted a few weeks back. I thought a better picture might show a little more.

I found all the coins and buttons at an old homesite on my farm. I think the home site was from late 1800's to around 1930 something ( I think this was a share crop house). I plan on confirming the dates by checking the local courthouse records. There is an ajoining homesite on the farm ( 1/4 mile away ) that has more promise ( I think this was the main house).

Let me know if the pictures show the detail. I have many more articles I've found here but have not taken pics yet.

The big Ben buttons are from the early 1900's, the Indian button I don't know?

Thanks for looking,
Smartin

Nice finds, Smartin. I especially like the indian button.

What I have been discovering is sites with two foundations on them. The newer foundation with the cut stone.....more labor intensive.....and then the original foundation....usuallly just piles of stones. They build the second house after they become more established...had more time and money to build "their dreamhouse". The old house was then used by their farm workers.

I think I got the camera figured-out!

Mona Lisa, I think your right. There are alot of big heavy stones deep and smaller cut stones closer to the top. I'll try to get some pics of the site (both sites) Thanks for looking.

Re: Indians, Lincolns, & Buttons-Trying out new Camera, see what you think!

Thanks all for looking.

I finally came up with a quick easy way to post pictures on the forum. I use a panasonic video palm corder w/ still picture. The mega pix is low(I think around 1.8 or something close, but is perfect for close-ups).I don't have to make any size change or any alteration to the pic. The size comes out perfect.(around 100-110 kb w/best pic setting).I never thought I'd use this feature, but it works great!

Before I was using my digital Olympus camera and could not get close-ups.( it was older and only 1.3 mpix which is not so good, but takes great scenic pics). The problem with camera was it only focused to about 18" and I could not get any closer and I could not control the flash).

I also use a card reader for the sd memory card which makes down loading very fast and easy. The reader can also copy to the memory card and can be used as a data back-up. It uses a USB port and requires no special software. ( you can get them for $20 and up) I got mine at Wal Mart for $26, it reads 12 different cards. I've seen them on E-bay cheaper, but didn't won't the hassle.

I can now take a pic, download it, and post it in just a few minutes. Before I would have to alter it, size it, test it ---bla---bla, etc-- and still wind up with crap!

I'm sure the geru's out there are get'n a pretty good laugh, but I feel I've finally made a huge hurdle in the "picture posting" dilemma.

PS: Old farm site picture, main house site later.

Civil,

Your right, I havn't covered a single hole. It's on my farm. I'm thinking about putting a single point plow on my tractor and turning the whole lot, that might be cheating. I think I'm going to collect all the rocks to use around my house I'm getting ready to build. The foundation rocks are perfect size for landscaping or exterior cladding.

Not real good practice for other sites though!

ps: if you look real close you might see a few dead soldiers too! (you know, empties)

Re: Indians, Lincolns, & Buttons-Trying out new Camera, see what you think!

NIce Digs Smartin,
Great pictures too. What kind of camer do you have? I think if
I owned that land, i'd be farming it or have some else farm it for you. Then everytime
that the beans, corn or wheat is off or just starting, I'd be out hunting those fields.
You can't beat a farm worked field for finding relics. I love to find old log cabin sites
in someone's field and hunt it.

Keep the pictures and finds coming. By the way fill in those holes. It's a good practice
even on your own property. I always fill in my holes even in a field while relic hunting.

Ringfinder,
Hey, thanks for the reply. Look about 3 or 4 previous replies up on this post and I kind of explained about the camera and all.

Greetings Smartin, fellow Quattro user. Looks like you are having fun! ;D Nice finds.

How deep were the IH's? Did they come in loud and clear?
Are you using the all metal mode? For the old sites I use it and sometimes notch out -10.

Good luck and yes use whatever means necessary to recover lost treasure. There is no such thing as cheating! ;D :D

Re: Indians, Lincolns, & Buttons-Trying out new Camera, see what you think!

Mirage,

Believe it or not but the IH were only about 2-3" deep, The 1910 was about 6-8" deep. The indians id'd at 32-35 and were pretty clear beeps, the 1935 & 1910 36 id and were just faint whispers cause all the nails around. I've been using all metal cause it seems to recover quicker, but still getting acquainted with the quattro.

Thanks for looking,

Smartin
