I went to dig a signal this morning that I had detected last week but did not have time to dig. It covered alot of ground and was deep so I had a friend come along to help dig the grand riches. The area we were in is very historic( Wolfstein Germany) .There are two castles and roman history also. We walked 15 minutes up the side of a mountian till we got to the spot. Both of us dug for about 5 minutes and found a big drain pipe. I was a bit disappointed but it was worth a shot. We started detecting the mountian side .After about two hours I got an iffy signal and dug a roman coin(I hope). I am still on cloud nine!! :) I also found what was left of a military folding shovel but I do not know if it is German military or not. There was a German anti aircraft group there during the war. Man ,this place is full of history. The moutian side about killed us but it was worth it! I have about 9 months left before I have to come back to the states so finding this coin was a real nice surprise. Thanks for looking and happy hunting.

VERY NICE!! THATS WHAT DETECTING IN OTHER COUNTRIES CAN BRING. NOT ONLY A CHANGE IN SCENERY, BUT A CHANGE IN TARGETS AS WELL.

Re: roman coin!

Another interesting group of finds, birdman. Some day you'll have lots of great memories to share.

Just think, the time will come when what you're doing today in Germany will no longer be possible for anyone. Today is the day of opportunity over there.

Keep posting these awesome finds.

Re: roman coin!

I scanned the back of the coin three times .It is a rider on horse back. The coin is so dark that you can not see much detail. ??? Any info would be great. I am assuming it is roman but have not IDed it yet 100%.

Re: roman coin!

Nice coins Birdman! I'm pretty sure the shovel isn't German, but quite possibly US (the grip section has the smooth ring on the wrong end for a german e-tool). Some fun finds I'm sure... a great site! -Ben

Re: roman coin!

Nice finds birdman!
I don't want to pee in your cornflakes but, that coin you found looks like it's British or commonwealth, since the woman is queen Victoria. It looks like her younger days around 1840. I almost can read "Victoria" on your coin.
I've seen the man on horseback on other British coins too.
I hope I'm wrong and it is a roman, but it looks like Victoria to me.
Dave.
