It was insane to go out today. Possibly the hottest day this year. By 9:30 and after only 30 minutes sweat was dripping off my face, and we were done. I feel it was worth the short effort though as I did recover a first for me a bale seal, or cloth seal as it does appear to be a sandwich, and I don't know the first thing about these things. I did see in IP's thread "Best Bale Seal" that some people have bags of them, so therefore, probably aren't worth anything. None-the-less a first find of any kind is a little special.

The little button looks rusty, but is not magnetic. The lead is 44 or 45 cal.

Anyone know the approximate age of that seal ?

Thanks,
Rick

I've not seen a later seal like that one go for much but have seen ones from the early trading companies sell for as high as $300.

With the heat still like it is you might catch Earl as a Hurricane.

Thanks IP.
I noticed one of yours, the triangular one, seems very unusual. Again, not knowing I would assume that one might be worth something.

By pure chance I'm sure, you picked out the type I have seen sold for $300! I've also seen one go for $250... and for $40! So it really depends who's interested.

Cool digs...I've dug 6 of that exact seal...it's from a potash mine in Germany. Late 1800s to 1915.
