Well pretty happy with the outing today, in 2 hours managed to dig my first large cent. Not sure whats going on with the conditions here but like the capped bust dime she is pretty worn. going to give it a peroxide bath to see if I can get any more detail. She was a tough dig under a 3 inch wide root.

Also found the turn knob to the lantern parts I've been finding here. PAT Feb 11th /73

Found another Eagle button that needs some serious cleaning. This is the same area I found the I button earlier this week. Wondering if its another I or a different button that would show there were two different soliders at the location.

Also found a pocket knife

Thanks for looking and HH

Not bad Bob. Looks like you got yourself a good dig site. You LC is actualy good enough to get an ID on and Possably a date too. And thats good. Most of mine you cant get a date off of. Yours looks like a matron head LC. I think they made them from 1816 through the mid 1830's I believe. :icon_thumleft:

Way to go! My first large cent took me over 30 years to find. I was so astounded by this huge disc but had no idea what I had found. I finally figured out what it was and about passed out. Mine is an 1851 and somebody drilled a hole almost exactly in the center of the coin. I always marveled it took me so long to find the first. I always thought they were so big, so why did it take me so long to find one?

Thanks for the replies.

I'll post of pic of the LC cleaned when I have time to do it.

While cleaning the button though I discovered that it is not an Eagle button. It has an eagle carrying an anchor surrounded by stars. Its over in the WII forum.
