Rare Large Size King Geoge II Westerwald Jug 1700's

I found this in the same pit as the "AR" mug and the Westerwald chamber pot that I posted earlier. It was in pieces, but I managed to get her back together. I contacted well known Archaeologist Ivor Noel Hume and sent him photographs of it.

It measures 11 inches tall, with a 3 1/2 inch base and top.

He stated it was from the early 1700's, a rare large size, and had unusual seal with a crown shape that he had not seen before.......THAT MADE MY DAY!

It may not be whole, but it is one RARE puppy!

Enjoy the pics!

Even though it doesn't have every single piece, it is still quite a valuable piece and very beautiful! My buddy Will aka BuckleBoy

found a nice Crock that was in pieces and restored it and in its condition is still worth a few hundred dollars....but historically in my

eyes, its priceless so congratulations to you sir! :icon_thumright:

P.S. Was wondering about those plates on your avatar. Those are some highly coveted plates. I saw a guy who dug a baby VMM plate last year at his first DIV but was wondering if all those plates were real. If so, thats a very valuable photo!!

Again, congrats on such a nice piece of history!

Hey, thanks for the comment!

I found them all and they ARE REAL. The large SC oval belt plate has "William Reynolds Palmetto Guards" on the back, and was found in downtown Charleston, SC. It was a cover story in the North South Trader Magazine.

The VMM and SNY were found in Union Camps on the SC coast.

The pic by the way was a top ten find pic from Western Eastern Treasures in 2003 I think.

Thanks for the questions!

You did an amazing job in your restoration of this piece 55th Mass! :notworthy:
I've seen GR jugs like that before, but I bet if you emailed off a pic
to Sotheby's in London they could tell you more about it. The more
you know, the more it'll be worth when it comes time to sell! :icon_thumright:

I'd recommend that you send an email here:

Thank you to all that have commented on my jug!
I have been lucky in the 39 years I have been a digger and I have dug some other great things...but this is my favorite bar none.

I even told my wife and kids that at my demise......I want my ashes put in it! seriously!!!

Eternity in a GR jug.....what a way to go!!

Like your restoration. Is there still a chance you may find any more of the pieces? Just curious...
The cool thing is it's something the people in the know have not not seen before.

Hope you find more like this! Good Luck!

Thanks, putting it back together was tough! I sifted the dirt and there were no more pieces to be found!

What a find! And amazing work putting it together :icon_thumleft: I was able to hold a couple of these last spring when I took a pottery class. What a thrill! I cannot imagine digging one - incredible!
