Well, here is a collection of items I've found in the last month and a half. I'm pretty happy with the seated liberty dime, it was my first seated coin. Also, pretty blown away with the 1720 George I half penny. I am also pretty fond of the compass, at first I thought it was a compact case, but it was really heavy. So I was hoping it was a compact case full of silver or gold coins. After some work with aluminum jelly to get all of the patina off, I was finally able to unscrew it. I was pretty amazed that the inside was in the condition it was in. Totally dry and undamage. Does anyone have an idea when it dates to? I could not find one makers mark on it.

I posted in the what is it section on the odd penny sized coin, as well as the button with some sort of state seal. If you have any ideas what they are let me know.

Thanks for looking

Jai

Congrates on your first Seated, and a two-center to boot.
Kudos.

I love the compass the graphics are in great condition. It looks like maybe mid 19th century.

yeah, I think that compass is going to make its way up my list of favorite finds for 2010, right up there with the silver cigarette case I found. So, mid 19th century aye? I wonder if there are any antique compass websites out there. I have a feeling if there is a makers mark it is underneith the glass, needle and graphics.

BTW, I forgot to mention, it still works, even though the needle is slightly corroded it still moves and points to north. Pretty sweet!

Also, thanks to Ironpatch, that unknown penny sized coin turned out to be a French Double tournois with a date of 1639!!! wow!
