The hooks are interesting....

Thw two on the right look like they might have been used to hang a pail or something, but the one with the big barb just looks downright nasty......

Hey TinPan, you labor was well (haha) rewarded.

A question: got any techniques for retrieving artifacts from a wet well?

On my property is a c.1795 well (presently unused), one meter diameter, ten meters deep, and stone lined. Depending on seasonal conditions there are 3.5 meters or more water in my hole-in-the-ground.

I suppose one method would be to pump down the well, then shinny down and sift thru the muck. This may run to some expense: in addition to the pump and some climbing gear, a ventilation system to ensure one does not suffocate would be needed. Also, this method assumes the inflow of ground water would not exceed the pump's capacity to bail.

So, do you or any other readers have suggestions for techniques or equipment other than those mentioned that could facilitate this project?

BR, nate
