I hit my usual spot and found another Barber dime (well worn) but my oldest so far - 1897. I then took a break the next day and went to my favorite park to see if I could find some more relics. I sure did: Old Gibson lighter, Advertising watch fob, small lead horseman figure, Victorian sash buckle (I think?), decorative door lock piece, couple of keys marked "Sargent and Greenleaf", pocket watch chain, brass handle, Lipstick cases - and some parts to an old pair of binoculars with an inscription that says: "Maggie Sept 13 87" (1887?) - and other assorted interesting items.. It was a good couple days. Can't wait for the weekend so I can get back out thee and do some more digging.

-I'm not sure what the K the gold is but it does have some weight to it.

I'm not sure about the keys but I suspect they might be mailbox keys. My apartment had an old set of mailboxes when I first moved in (switched to newer ones years ago) and they looked similar to this.

Thanks for the nice comments! :)

Nice finds. I agree with the "mail box key" theory. My great grand father ran a store and post office and I have some of the keys from the early 1900's. They look like yours.

Love the fob! Looks like a great hunt.

The "nugget" looks a little suspect to me though. If it is gold, it doesn't look like a natural nugget to me. Looks more like a man-made golden dollop. Then again, gold is gold... :)

The "nugget" is one of those molten gold drops cooled in water deals. Not old at all. I looked it up and I just called it a "nugget" for description's sake. No illusions of this being a nugget at all. I've seen what those look like and this is nowhere close to looking like that. LOL

I'm not sure of the stones in either silver ring, and I'll have to bring it in to have it checked out for certain.

Thank you all for the really encouraging comments! When I started this hobby back in May, I never dreamed I would be finding the types of things I have been bringing home lately. I do owe a HUGE amount of gratitude to this website and the posters on it's forum as they have given me more than enough knowledge to get a good start. Much appreciated! :icon_thumright:

I'll slap a few more photos up here to show some of the other misc finds dug up the same day. (Including the reverse of the watch fob). My jewelry box that I found at a rummage sale is getting full. LOL The bottom area is stuffed with the odds and ends and other junk rings and jewelry. Can't wait for this weekend! HH everyone!

Looking at the picture of the nugget one can see all the pinholes in the piece, likely caused by air bubbles....a common thing in man made nuggets.Occasionaly specks of the quartz matrix will fall/erode out of a natural nugget causing a similar looking piece.

Sargent and Greenleaf were makers of safes and locks. My bet is
that your keys go to safe deposit boxes. Very nice finds. Jimbob

My guess is the silver ring's stone is precious opal (as already suggested). Handle it carefully! If opal, even sudden changes in humidity/temperature/handling can cause cracks/chips/damage. The setting looks more contrived than mass-produced, and I'll guess it was hand-crafted to display this particular stone.

Truly some excellent finds. Increasing skills, I'm guessing.
