old union pin

Found this pin in a vacant lot in Gastonia N.C.. Yea! Thats my big scratch. It says UNION IS STRENGTH across the top and EENDRACHT MAAKT MACHT. Does anyone know about this pin? Is that Latin? It still has the stickpin going through the loops in the back.

It is Dutch, I think. It means, "Strength lies in Unity." So, just what it says in English.

Additionally, I found that statement attached to various items relating to the Boer Wars in S. Africa.

The animal appears to be an impala, found in S. Africa. So my guess is that.
