HOLY COW!! Is this the "Holy Grail of Milk Bottles?

Hello again everyone. It is good to be back. I know this is not exactly a Today's Find but I had to wait until the site came back up. And boy am I glad it did. Talk about stir crazy in the snow and cold! Thanks TNet for coming back on line!

Now this particular find came a few days ago. Don and I were in a pit that was around 7 to 8 feet deep. We dug down in one pit and then probed sideways at an angle and discovered another chamber about 3 more feet down. It was covered by a real hard clay cap and was difficult to get to. The rain had changed to sleet and then back to rain. It was soaking us but we were determined to get to the bottom of the pit to see what it held. We knew that we were already in an 1880-1890 pit with some of the broken bottles and plates that we unearthed. So we knew we were going older the deeper we went down through the clay cap and finally hit the "Glass Chamber" that held this baby. Thank God we found that intact because everything else was broken. ;D

I am quite sure that its the real deal as far as not being a reproduction. :icon_thumleft: I have read that these are reproduced in various colors. So here it is The Thatcher Milk Bottle. I assume Circa 1886 or so. Supposedly one of the earliest of milk bottles. I just cannot find anything about it as far as Rarity, how many might have been made, variants or worth for that matter. So hopefully one of you milk bottle guru's can chime in here for us. We did find another one that was shattered so we are blessed to have this one in our collection for the year. Sorry we didn't get the camera wet and take insitu pictures but it was a cruddy day out there. This one picked our spirits up though. I hope you enjoy the pics. Thanks and be safe out there. jgas

The Warren Milk Bottle was the first in 1880. Thatcher one was the best known, made in 1883 and the best for the time. :icon_thumright:
