Parrott shell fragment
I believe this to be a fragment from the nose of a union 10 or 20 pound Parrott shell. It is cast iron and has some type of threading on what would be the top of the inside, and the outside is relatively smooth. I also found a few iron whatsits in and around an old firepit which I will post on the what is it forum as soon as I can talk to my dad to see where he put them. This site seems very promising and I'll be bracing the cold when I go back tomorrow. It is within walking distance to a major civil war battlefield. HH y'all.
