Hello all my metal detecting friends, I have had three very sucessful days out hunting the beaches around East London, this is in the state called The Eastern Cape, the first ring that I picked up was a 9 carrot gold wedding band, nice clean little ring weighs 0.082 oz, could not have been in the sand long, it was in wet sand about 6 inches down.
Then the next ring that I found was in dry white sand on the beach, also about 4 inches down, this ring is a 18 carrot with a few what looks like six small diamonds and then a bigger stone in the middle, this ring has been in the ground for a while because the gold has lost its colour, but I can see the markings 18 ct on it, this rings weighs in at 0.187 oz the reason why I say that they are diamonds in because the settings is in such a way that the other end of the stones are not closed up.
Then the cherry of them all is a very beautiful Platinum ring, it weighs in at 0.493 oz this ring also has some incscribings inside by whoever owned it, I met a guy on the beach that makes jellery and he said that he would offer me R3 000.00 for this ring then and now, however I said that I first want to take some pic's of it and show you guys as well.
I think that it is worth much more, maybe you guys can give me an idea?
I then found this very nice looking mens watch, it still works and the date is 100 % correct, it is made by Rotary it also could not have been in the wet sand for long, about 4 inches down as well.
I must mention that I went to this "black" beach, there were well over 5 000 people on it at the time, a few hundred swimming in the sea and about 20 following after me, small children, they soon catched onto the idea that where ever I dub my spade into the sand that I would pull out money, which I was doing, anyway it soon became impossible to dig any of the finds for myself, and luckily the battery gave up on the machine as well as I had used it the day before and had forgotten to re-charge the battery the night before, anyway what can a person do when you are outnumbered by a few thousand, must just metion that not one person gave me any problems, everybody was very interested to know what I was doing, I told them that I get employed to search for glass, nails and wire to help try and prevent them hurting their feet.
I am going down again after the New Year on the 2nd and will then comb these beaches again and show you what else that I find, I must just mention that I also found over R120.00 in various coins, fishing hooks, bicycle spanner, tent pegs, various bangles, a few bottle caps, pull tabs, nails, wire and a variety of other junk as well.
