Nice one, I dont have my book in front of me but I would guess 1840s

A little lemon juice of aluminum jelly would probably bring out the gilt nicely.

The one piece eagle infantry buttons were made from about 1821 to about 1840. Yours looks to have gold plating on it, so I think it might be from the later part of that period.

thanks for the info that is good news I was thinking it was more modern.

Nice Button!
The oval solder blob holding the shank appears to hide an 'omega' shank,
shaped like the Greek letter, with feet. pre 1820 would have an 'Alpha' shank,
basically just a ring, usually displaying a circular blob.
Congrats on a sweet Early Infantry Button! :thumbsup:
