SURPRISE - SURPRISE

As planned I got up early for a one hour drive to a set of three volley ball courts that had been calling to me . Suprise number one was that the area I drove into had gotten 4 inches of rain in one hour the night before and that translated to 2 feet of water standing right on top of those three courts .

Luckily I had brought my Excalibur along In case I found a good beach .

Surprise number two was finding 3 turn of the Century Tokens . This being a Public Volley Ball Court I first assumed they were reproduction bar tokens . But oh contrare , on closer inspection I could see they were the real deal . Token R.F. Kelly is 7/8" - McKloone & Conway is 1" and the third which is a blank front sample measures 1- 1/16" .

Can anyone date these closer than turn of the Century ?

Wow,

those are some nice finds from that
type of location, strange.

Is there a mat under the sand on those
courts?

Is it a park?

Sure would like to know where the sand
came from.

Again, very nice.

No there is no mat , just dirt . It looks as though they just dug it up , heaped the sides up around the edges and threw in 2' of sugar sand . It is in an old park so I would guess we need detectors that will go down 2' and a backhoe . Old tokens were the last thing I expected to find in a volleyball court .

God willing when the water goes down . There was a lot of standing water outside the courts too which translated to mud .
