Hello, today was the last day to Md a park that my dad plays softball in. He lost, but still got a trophy. I did a grid in this one area of the park and got 3 wheats in a row! In the pic, there is my first pocket knife, first harmonica reed, and my first half dollar. The wheats are 1928, 1937, and dateless. Is there any specific way to use WD-40 to clean coins?

CONGRATS on the Finds GC

I spray Wd on my coins & Use a Tooth Brush Before it Evaporates,
doing this several times, will bring out some extra Detail.
This Process can take months. I have done this & put the Coin away & redone it to it a Month or so Later.

I have also Soaked them in it.

I Don't use it on Wheats, Mainly Large Cents, 2 Cent Pieces, Copper Tokens, and the Like. (Not Indians, especially if they have a Cool Green Patina under the Crust. I just use a fingernail & Scrape the Crust off & The Green Patina & Dates Shine." WD will Remove the Patina :( )
Sorry, I'm Not putting down your Finds by any Means,
I like Finding Wheats also. But for the most part, they have no REAL
Collector Value anyway. Unless it's for Copper Value, or Posterity.

To Raise a date on Wheats, I take a Pencil with an Eraser.
And Rub the area of the date to try and clean enough of the raised date
to be able to date it.

on 1909's I do it where the V.D.B. Should Be, if I don't see it.

Next, let me say. Professionals will Cringe at my doing these things,
saying I'm destroing all Value be Doing this.

However, When I look at a Coin I can't I.D. Fully, I realize nobody is going to say "WOW That's a cool Looking Coin"

But If I can get enough Detail, someone will.

a Slug has no "collector" Value.
a Cleaned Coin in some cases has more Value Cleaned then Not.
I stand by that Statement

just be careful you don't clean what you shouldn't ;)

I know the wheats arn't that good of a find, but i would like to know the dates on them to be able to date a site. Also, the very early ones are kinda cool.

Just a Thought,

When I want to see a date on a wheat, I will wet it with Spit
and Hold it in a Bright Light at an Angle & use a Magnifying
glass. Sometimes that works.

Spray Lube will work too But you need to be faster Because it Drys
(Evaporates) Quickly.

i know, i get a few dates that way, but sometimes it just doesn't work. Also, useing paper and pen works, except you have to look at the back
