Drove onto a random farm and asked if I could detect, the gal said it was owned by a board of trusties. She went into the barn and was told it was ok to detect. It was a summer vacation spot for a wealthy family who donated the property to the town. About an hour into it and beginning to find some great artifacts a truck pulled up and a guy said "I know you were told it was ok to detect, but its not allowed". I asked if it was a city ordinance and he said you have to write a letter to the board of trustees to get the ok. I may send the letter with the artifacts and ask if it is ok to continue to detect.
Found a couple of spoons,
Horse tack,
Bronze disc whatzit?
1879 buckle?

Sorry to hear that. Looks like you got a nice coin silver spoon too.

Suppose you have nothing to lose by asking, but I wouldn't hold my breath. I had to write a letter to some town selectmen who wrote back saying they didn't want me to "disrupt the soil". I guess they should also tell the kids not to play on that ground either because they're disrupting the grass.

I firmly believe that if you ask enough people, someone will eventually tell you no. You did good to jump when you got the initial green light. Great Finds!

Thanks all,
I had found a very historical church from the 1600's that is in a very dangerous neighborhood. I had asked for permission and they had to pass it by the board of trustees and you know the rest. They did thank me for asking. I am sure the wealthy family who left it to the town would turn in there grave if they new these trustee people were turning down us treasure hunting, history recovering, artifact saving types..... The stuff is just rusting away. Geez. I thought the angle that I would hand over all finds would encourage them to say its ok and mailing them the found artifacts in a nice display case, but then I would get discouraged spending gas money and time to hand over all the loot. If I was on the board, I would be excited to see what was in the ground.

ah that's too bad, I know the feeling. today I just lost permission to hunt a property, in the fields nowhere near the house, where I find at least one CW bullet on every trip.

I knew it was going to happen. While the owners were accommodating, the new tenants had put up signs stating NO TREPASSING and PROPERTY UNDER 24 HOUR VIDEO SURVALINCE. I knew as soon as they saw me they would be calling the owner. I met the tenant yesterday, had a nice conversation, said goodbye, and got a call from the owner today.

Oh well on to the next. Kind of sucks as that was my 5 min from work lunch hunt. all my other sites are 30 plus mins away.

historical is the key word here. If listed and registered as a historical site, they are supposed not to do relic hunting etc on it. Doing such can lose the historical part that can be used as a tax right off etc...
Yet some owners don't care and will let you do it anyway. Who's going to tell???
Always worth asking.

Get that letter in the mail. Its just a little hoop to jump. I keep a permission form in my bag, along with the "already approved" ones. I have one each from all local govs asking about their parks...I'm ready to say "sign here" anytime. Good luck.

That's a bummer. Hopefully you can regain access through the board. Just be sure to plead your case as to the significance of recovering artifacts that are rusting and corroding away. On top of leaving the landscape without a sign of even being there at all, if not better than it was prior to retrieving targets. Good luck on this venture and HH.
