I went back to the burned down house today - where I have found some unusual things but nothing old until just recently. I knew this site went back to the mid-1700s. Today I focused on the lane to the site - it is long and wooded and the earth moving machines had been taking down an outbuilding nearby so I thought I would check out the area.

I found the harness buckle first - then the interesting designed shield fob piece :icon_scratch: - then I hit the copper ;D Pretty toasted but it is my first George copper of any type and oldest coin yet! ;D

Why do you say 66 or 69? Hume says halfpennies were also minted in 1774-76 and 1781-82.

By the way congrats on your first Georgie Bramble. It wouln't be your last if your hunting in New York

Because that bust was only used on the 66 & 69 then it changed to the old head. There's also a different bust for the 69, but only that year.

Congrats on your oldest coin so far and more to come this year I'm sure.

What IP has said about the dates and the bust is entirely correct. Here is a good website on Irish Milled coppers and it does explain what IP has said about the 1766 and 1769 dates, type of bust, etc.

Re: My oldest coin yet - George III Hibernia!

I just got back from another trip to the site and I wanted to show off my oldest dog license tag yet :D A 1919 NYS beauty. :headbang: I also found a 1935 at this site earlier. And today I found the 5 wheat pennies as well. ;D
