After a month of MDing I have finally begun to find what I've been looking for. I have had the privilege to hunt my Wife's Great Grandmother's home. She tells me the house was built in the 1860's (a good age for this area, most land here was under water until the drainage and tile projects of the early 20th century).
After only a few minutes I had a nice dime signal next to an old sidewalk in her front yard. I cut the plug and there sitting at the bottom of the hole was my very first Merc!! a 1940 S in great condition........until I noticed the scratch I gave it with my trowel :(
After a couple of hours I had some good finds. 3 1940's wheaties, a Jaguar Tootise toy and a nice brass makeup compact.
It was a very satisfying hunt
I'm sorry for the poor pic's. HAPPY HUNTING!!

Thanks guys.
I don't know much about Tootsie Toys. Does anyone know about how old this Jaguar is?

The car dates to the early 1960s. I used to have a set as a kid.

If that place dates back to the 1860's there is some much older stuff to be found... Keep at it and good luck!

Nice stuff,,, you will scratch a few here and there!!!

Try digging a little bigger hole and dig strait down instead of a cone shaped hole.
