2 firsts tonight! What does Excelsior & Draped Bust have in common?

Got them both! ;)

I've been driving by this old house near the lake for a couple of weeks now, they have the yard all torn up and stuff! I keep telling myself that I have to stop and ask to play in their dirt! finally tonight after dinner I did... he said sure! I hope you find lots of old coins!

The old guy was great and friendly, couldn't ask for a nicer guy. My camera broke so I don't have a pic of the old home and grounds but I started at the front porch and worked all the loose dirt from the trenches they had dug up and around the west side of the house. Nothing! Nothing! Nothing! I went over an hour and wasn't finding anything so I knew that someone had got there long before I did! (Sigh.)

So with about a 1/2 hr left of daylight I work around to the to the other side of the house starting at the east side of the porch and got an iffy signal but steady enough to dig. WOW! Under 3 inches of mulch and 3 inches fo dirt was this little beauty they call an Excelsior Button! My first really old button! It's a beauty and still has the backing on it to thread to. That got my heart going!
And then not even 5 feet away I'm scanning more loose dirt and I glance across the trench and locked my eyes right on a large cent with just it's nice green patina rim showing. Just to hear the sound... I ran the detector over it to hear it ring! ;D

So I reached right over to pull it out and seen the flowing hair! Yeah Baby! My 1st Caped Bust Cent, it's a beauty too, seems to be in Fine condition but with a little corrosion... but still a beauty!

Thanks all for ready thru this mess... I had a great night even tho I only found 2 keepers! ;)

Chris

Really nice large cent.

Good thing you stopped and asked.

Must have been a old site.

I'd get back there if I could one more time.
