OK, now that you've looked I have to be honest & tell you that I didnt dig these awesome coins up...............they were given to me by my father who has collected coins since he was a kid! When I was young I remember he always looked through his pocket change for wheaties, he just told me that he has looked closely at every single coin he has ever had since he was about 8 years old! Obsesive old fart, eh? And we all thought he was crazy! He dug out his collection & we looked through it, he gave me many other coins as well, bunch of Liberty nickels, roll of old wheats etc but I fell in love with this large cent! Oldest coin in my small but growing collection! Now, if I could only dig one up Id be happy as all hell! ;D
Also gave me this gold plated 1883 Liberty nickel (also called Racketeer Nickel), for those that dont know, the back didnt say "cents" so many dishonest people put a thin layer of gold on em & passed em off as $5 gold peices! This only worked for a few months before the mints added "cents" to the back. Not worth a lot but I think its a prety cool coin!

Way cool coins, AP! Thanks for sharing them with us.

Now go throw them out in the yard so you can detect and say you found them.

heheh AP I haven't been able to get out much either, except to go dig up that old stove. Its just been SCORCHING hot around here, the ground is like cement, I *already* have open blisters on my palms from THing (a common summer malady for me), and so I am restlessly camping in my cave instead of hunting.

i have one of those too, except some moron thought it was real and tried to solder it to a ring. Also, i always called them "joshed" nickles.....

Great ones

Very cool. So that is why my V Nickel has a gold coating! Now I have to dig through my collection and find it. Coin collecting is why I got into metal detecting. I am looking to dig my first large cent.

Nice "gifts" there A P. I found an 1821 large cent years ago and just the other day I got an 1833 Belgium coin but I'm still on the hunt for
a BARBER.. It has eluded me all these years.... I pray to the the metal detecting GODS every time I'm in an area that may hold one....

Coin history is very interesting. I've heard of those "Gold" nickels but never seen one. Coins are the main reason I like MDing, although digging up history is also exciting. you have a real nice start for collecting.
congrats
