Past week we returned to the Do217 crash site. We find, as always, a lot of fragments, but nothing that can help us to identift serial number of aircraft.

The aircraft should be the same group that 9 sept 1943 attacked battleship ROMA of italian navy (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Italian_battleship_Roma_(1940) )with radio bomb FX-1400. In the day this aircraft was shot down (16 sept. 1943) the Do217 attacked the allied battleship in Salerno's Gulf and shot again with a FX-1400 battleship Warspite (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Warspite_(03) )

In the first morning we go up to the over 1000 mt of crash site.

I think that plane was one of the best German bombers of the war.
Would love to be able to find some vintage plane parts out here in Colorado, I know of a B-25
that crashed in the mountains a while back.

Very interesting post and congratulations on your finds! :notworthy:
I notice there's not very much corrosion on the fragments either! :icon_thumright:

Best of luck to you,
