This is the Stubble Field we have being working & we have covered it fairly quickly as its pretty quiet, so should finish it in about 10 hours or so.

The field lived up to its name (random) we recently gave it, because the only thing we expected today was the unexpected.

Most other fields we can have an educated guess as to what to expect, but this one just throws out surprises of all periods

Cru'dad got on the score sheet early on with a broken :( enamelled Medieval Horse Harness Pendant. Then it was dead for 4 hours until we finished the middle section & I was heading over to the water & jackets when I got a hammered Shortcross :) Followed by 2 more in less than 1 hour ;D (these came from the other side of the field in a trashy area close to the farm)

My first complete Penny of Alexander III circa 1280 (Scottish!)
Shortcross has me stumped as its spelling fits nothing in the books - +SIH[??? ???]ME
Elizabeth I Halfgroat
Hunts Button with Whippet Dog
Livery Button
Tudor Button
Lead Token
Mangled Ram Rod Guide
18th C Sword Belt Fitment
Med. Belt Decor
Med. Belt Slide
Tudor Clothes Fastener (maybe face of Christ) broken off hook
1 Roman Coin - Romulus & Remus
17th C Spur Buckle

Can't guess whats the next good thing, maybe nothing more :dontknow:

Sadly the wire on my 11 inch coil has broken, so back to the 9 inch stock until I get a new one :(

no brooch but I guess you mean Horse Pendant :icon_thumright: Would have once looked good, centre Cross with red inner circle, blue outer circle & gilt lugs (lots missing, including the suspension loop)

I'm very careful for the most part, the slack is looped in my front right deep camo pocket, but I kicked a weed which must have flexed it near join to the unit, own stupid fault, but it will be odd without it.

:o :o

A good selection of finds, made for a great day out :icon_thumleft: during this difficult time of year, it's really a very good day :notworthy:

Scottish hammered are among my favourite type, the 24 points would indicate that it is from the Berwick Mint, a long way from home. The short x might take a bit of digging to nail the mint and monyer :-\

Good, I will add the mint on the slip, didn't see the mints in book until I just doubled checked. I don't look at the Scottish book that much :hello:

I love looking at your finds. It only makes me sad though that I will NEVER find stuff that cool.

Thanks for sharing. Keep up the great finds.

Only the one we took a punt on last Sunday. But it will be far too hard to dig until the rain comes & there is very little old finds in it.
