Re: Post office clerk's badge!

That Postal Badge looks really old. If you contact your local Postal Inspector he might be able to provide you information on it, but I'm sure whoever wore it has long been retired. Good luck!

Nice looking badge!
I come across those 'Gold' coins often enough to keep my hopes up.
sometimes they are just brass discs, (they often come out gleaming from the mud)
the last one was a brass thumbnut, of which I first saw the reeded edge :o
Interesting 'Maltese Cross' item too!
Best Digs to You

Re: Post office clerk's badge!

Hi C. D. - Yep , Philly Postal badge sure is cool. However , what caught my eye most was the item you are using for the ring rest ! It appears to be , if original, an old style (1685 - 1720 ) brass drawer-pull from a chest or dresser, standard for that period. I've dug a few myself , but only on the earliest sites. Just how old WAS this ground you were hunting? (occasionally, old padlock keyhole covers, on the fancy side can resemble this form, but considering the attachment and metal ; very unlikely). If you found this amongst this other stuff , say near Philadelphia , ...a colonial motherlode may not be far away !!! Best Regards and continued Good Hunting!
