I got back out to Cannonball Beach this morning but this time I had some competition...The Patriot joined me for a day of detecting. We got there at high tide and detected the tide all the way down and back up again. We were heading back to the car with pouches of musket balls but no cannonballs. We were back in the area where I had found three previously and sure enough out popped another. I was hoping that The Patriot would have found it but I wasn't complaining too much...and we'll be back at it tomorrow.

I'm pretty sure that this is an 8 pounder but I haven't weighed it yet.

The Patriot had me beat at the next site but I'll leave that for his post. Stay tuned for updates after tomorrow's hunt.

I'm sure glad to hear that the beach is still hiding a few goodies....you know I'll have to have a crack at it for my own little iron baby!

Patriot will have to find some other relics and leave some for the rest of us ;D

ps...heading home to D'ville in a couple of weeks, and yes, it will be good to get the Explorer humming again.

and oh yeah...I like your finds, as always, you know I think you got some of the best detecting ground around,I'm looking forward to putting my shovel back in it

Looks like success to me. :headbang:

I thought the hunt was just starting today, but will look forward to what you guys come up with on round 2. The Patriot's dug collection lacks early military and French silver so you should set him up.

On 2nd thought no screw him, keep it for yourself. :laughing7:

Congrats on The baby ball!
this one was a bit easier for you to travel with.
Best i've recovered is the larger half of a shattered 'Saker' ball
around 3.5" diameter.
was found near the former 'Fort William and Mary' now 'Fort Constitution'
Site of the first overt act of the Revolution, and Paul Reveres first rum fueled ride good story below :
http://www.library.unh.edu/special/index.php/exhibits/capture-of-fort-william-and-mary
The picture in the link sure is different than todays view, though the landforms are still recognizable.
I can't help but assume this was fired at the fort and shattered on impact.
you are getting a great collection of ordnance from this site!

Finally got around to weighing it...it's an 8 pounder! So that makes a 4, 8, 12, 18 and 36 pounder this year! Funny that I haven't found any "doubles"...

Its fun diggin' those Cannonballs. A few years ago a friend and I got into a spot and dug at least 20 of them out and a few more since then. THAT'S a thrill that most people seldom get to experience. CONGRATS my friend! :headbang: :headbang:

Yep, it took 6 years of detecting to experience that thrill...now I've experienced it 5 times this year and that beach is far from hunted out!

Well you've managed to pull another one out of your magic hat on that beach...I KNOW there are more to be found there and meant to be found on another day. Find it weird you didn't pull any doubles out but even better for your collection! I will be curious about that site further up on the beach and what comes out of there...

Yeah, I think we were probably at the camp site but not the landing site...stay tuned and come back anytime!
