My first V nickel! found in "hunted out" park

Just unbelievable! I've talked to a couple of old timers who say this park is the most hunted site in the city. They talk about "back in the day" when there was silver around every tree. One even mentioned a 1817 British silver. After 2 hunts in the park I had a couple of interesting relics but no coins not even clad. On the third hunt I was swinging around what looks to be the oldest tree in the park, this tree must be 200 years old. I'm swinging very slow and I get a perfect nickel signal, nearly on the surface, I bend down to take a handfull of the loose debris on the surface and wave it under my coil and, it's in there. I open my hand to see a small coin covered in black corrosion, all but three stars along the border and alittle hair tied in a bun from a bust! I knew I had broke my 1940 record for oldest coin.
When I returned home I was able to remove the corrosion with some gentle rubbing under the facet. and the date 1906 popped out.
I stiil can't believe it a V nickel basically on the surface of a so called "hunted out park"!!! HH ALL!!

Sorry for the nasty pics I still need a better macro setup :(

Being on top it was probably dug and then droped again by one of those past detectorist . I have found several old coins on top in hard hunted sites that I believe were found then lost again . Still your find and a good one ! :icon_sunny: Congrads on your oldest and a first ! MaineRelic
