Logging, my last finds 'til cooler this fall

My latest digging at a lumber camp. The ferns are getting too tall, the bugs are getting too nasty and it's to hot be be enjoyable digging. I'll beback out this fall when it cools down. Now it's time to start cleaning all the iron I found this spring.

Man, I like the peavey, and the broad axe is a great find. Seems like you got a few of them based on the avatar.
Make sure you let us see the cleaned up bits of iron periodically. I like viewing those logging finds.

DMN, this peavey style is more rare to find with all of the segments together. The more common peavey that I find is a solid sleeve that holds the point. The first broad axe that I found was in April of 1976. I didn't find any more until 32 years later when I found broad axes on Jan. 12 2008

Creskol, they are called log retarders or goose necks. Used to slow logs down when they are going too fast down a log side. I have read accounts of were shavings were 6' deep from the points digging into the logs. It is more common to find broken ones from the force of the log breaking them.
