Headed out for a boatyard hunt and misjudged the tide by 2 hours :tongue3:
Searched the shallows of a swimming hole next to an old police station instead.
Got the triggerguard and possibly related brass piece.
no markings, handgun, long gun, age. don't know.
rather odd that it was right next to the police station, imagine it was a 'throwaway'.
A Victorian brass strap dog collar 'my name is Tyro'
tyro (tī′rō)
noun pl. tyros -·ros
a beginner in learning something; novice
Origin: ML < L tiro, young soldier, beginner.
a piece of lead Type set, 'names to the manager' uh oh, a report. :laughing7:
2 flats and a convex button, ringed slug around .50 cal.
Then I enjoyed one of the best ales I've ever tasted :D
hope to get a hunt in today, got a lead on an old schoolhouse ;D
Best digs to you all

I'm not 100% sure, but your trigger guard looks to be from a Remington model 1858 New Army pistol. Really cool find whatever it's from!

Great work Ken!!
your suggestion led me to it's .36 cal brother, the Remington Beals Navy pistol.
Looks like a 100% match to me :hello2:
Thanks, Now it's got an ID.
Couldn't be happier with this, nice piece !!

Some of my favorites too!
I'm thinking the slender brass part may be from the housing
under the barrel :icon_scratch:
A prized piece is this part of 1730 Brown Bess Long Land Pattern triggerguard.
The first model.
I just assumed it was an oddly shaped :laughing7: piece of brass.
sharpeyed members enlightened me :notworthy:
Also found in the same area was a more ornate triggerguard,
a piece that resembles part # 8 in the brown bess schematic,(trigger base plate?)
and a buttplate with screw intact, (leads me to believe the entire weapon was lost) have searched the area extensively,
no more to be found :-\

I had a repro '58 Army years ago, and I don't recognize that slender part from it. The two look pretty much identical in construction and I can't imagine where that part would fit in. The part under the barrel is the loading lever, which is steel. It could very well still be a gun part, some close ups might help.
