Re: 1800's Boot Pistol

Thats actually the top part of the barrel that blew out. The hammer and spring came out of the open part towards the rear.

Yep, similar to the two that I have found but neither of mine had a blow-out like that...ouch.

Re: 1800's Boot Pistol

That is a barrel of a mid 1800's percussion cap pistol assembled by a company named Leige. It was an inexpensive pistol, and a lot of people owned them. They have been known to be found on, or around Civil War skirmish/battle sites predominately used by the Confederate kids. Because the Confederate army had little monies, we have assumed they were used mostly by that party. Used as a "last chance" effort to stay alive durring a sticky situation. Union Soldiers were issued their pistols courtesy of uncle sam.

Here is a mid 1800's Leige Percussion Cap Pistol we dug on a Civil War Skirmish site in N.C. You can see on top, where the nipple is where the percussion cap was placed.

That's a really neat find, I'd hate to have been the guy holding it when the barrel let go like that.....

don't worry, he didn't hold it for long :D

I found one of these in a field a week or so ago and didn't know what it was until I saw the photos here. Mine was missing the barrel due to an overload of powder. Probably hurt the guy shooting it.
