During the war in 1808 against the Russians who tried to invade Finland at the time, the Swedish soldiers set up cannons and troops in a forest hilltop, where they could effectifully bombard the nearby waterway, so we hunted the nearby forest area and found plenty of things.

Almost all musketballs where at least at 7-8 inches, buttons where at least 4-6 inches. X-terra 70 was in 2 tones, all metal mode, sensitivity 28, threshold at 5, track and headphones and i used the stock coil. Almost all the musketball signals where bouncy id numbers, but if the id numbers where positive, i dug the target up. Trash in that place was almost non-existend so it was easy sailing.

We returned at the place in the same day with two Golden mask 3 detectors and i found 12 musketballs that almost all where well over 9 inches, musketballs where found in same places i hunted with the X-terra with the stock coil, i am sure that a larger x-terra 10.5" dd coil would have been better at getting those deeper targets.

X-terra 70 finds:

There where no sortage of musketballs.

Good condition 1 kopek 1840

All the Golden mask 3 finds:

Here is a poor quality cellphone picture of the area we hunted:

This is todays finds:

A russian travel icon.

flint with lead wrapped around it.

This is my first cannonball find ever.

This musketball was near the surface.

This musketball was quite deep.

My cousin filmed some of our hunt.

Looks like a perfect quiet area to detect. Do you happen to know what kind of camera or video recorder your cousin used, or how he had it set up?
I've always wanted to record myself from that perspective. :)

Because i found it near the cannonball and some Russian buttons, i could say it is late 18th- early 19th century.

The helmet camera is a DV50, it is 720p HD, wide lens, waterproof and with remote control. It is directly attached to the modified Peltor radio headphones, so you can listen to the radio, while detecting. :laughing9:

I'm nominating that travel Icon, just cause it's way too cool.
And I'll probably never, ever get to dig one.

I have found pieces of travel icons, but never a complete one before, so it is rare and very nice find. ;D

Boy, I thought Romeo got all the canonballs. That's a great find. And those musket balls look like they could have dented your day pretty severely.

Both me and my cousin got each one solid cannonball and also plenty of other thing, so it is all good. Those pretty musketballs diameter are 18-19mm, so if they would have hitted something, it would be a very bad day for him. :laughing9:
