Went out hunting over the weekend and ran across this railroad spike. The park it was in was given to the city in 1928 so it has to be older than that. What to me is way cooler is the fact that in the same hole my friend and I seem to believe is a lump of coal.

Can anyone guess about the age. It was found about 4" down

It's (almost) impossible to date a RR spike, as the basic design hasn't changed in better than 100 years. About the only changes made have been in the methods of manufacturing.

That being said, I would guess, because of the coal being in the hole, that it was before 1950 as by that time, coal burners were just about history. I rode my last coal burner in 1949 and never had another opportunity. :'(
