Hello Friends
I've been driving past a small park in the country for about 5 years now, but I've never seen anyone using it.
I noticed a flat piece of vacant property next to it; the two properties are divided by a row of very old pine trees. So I got to wondering . . . "the park is surrounded by 100 year old trees, so is the "flat" piece of property . . . did the two used to be one at some point?" So, I started to do some research and found the land used to be occupied by the Myrtle School House - Built in 1880
Here is a bit of the history, as well as, well as some old photos.
Myrtle school was built in 1880 on the south side of the 9th Concession of Whitby Township, a short distance west of Highway 12. It was a board and batten building covered with insubrick
in the late 1940s. In July 1940 the building was raised and a basement was built underneath it.
The building was demolished in 1978.
I hunted both of the properties today for about 5 hours and made some interesting finds!
Found:
1925 Canadian Silver Quarter
1949 Washington Quarter
1945 Canadian Silver Dime
1917 Canadian Large Cent
1936 '41 & '42 Canadian Pennies
I'm heading back again tomorrow and hope to find a ring or a coin from the 1800's!
Happy hunting everyone!
Dave
PS. Sorry about the quality of the pics, all I had today was my cell phone camera. :P
