First site a bust / A few 18th century finds at 2nd site .

Had a busy day planed on this Holiday ! So I got up early this morning and hit a new field / median in town today. A big field area created by the highway ramps curling around into , and out of town . I know it was worked over during the construction of the highway but I hoped I could still find a few things that were just moved around or uncovered during construction . Did not find much there in two and a half hours a .65 cal musket ball and a copper leaf style earring piece and a little bit of clad in and amongst a field of canslaw is what I found . I can put this spot on my very low priority list. I hated to go home almost skunked so I stoped at an old reliable "use at your own risk " lot on my way home. In 6 hunts there in the last 2 seasons I have always found at least one silver . I had also picked up an 1800 draped bust half cent there last year. Today I made three 18th century finds there . First was the 1798 draped bust large cent . only about 5 inches down . Four or five feet away I get another signal. This one is breaking up some at pulltab but of course I was digging everything after finding the large cent. It turns out it was an under sized 26.6 mm and under weight only 5.9 gm. King George II Half Penny . No detail left at all on the reverse . I would say a definite period counterfeit . A half hour later I get another good deep signal and out pops the nice big 22.5 mm lead seal with a 1799 date on it . I also managed to pop my one silver. A 1900 barber dime , four Wheaties , and a fair amount of clad and a few do dads in the hour and a half at this spot . Thanks for looking and Happy fourth of July ! MaineRelic

2nd coin kinda looks like a CT copper at first glance. Awesome lead seal!

You rounded the bases on this hunt :o
That Draped is in Just Fine shape..
Nice counterfeit and dated 18th Century seal is a first seen here.
I'm guessing it was to ensure the buyer that fresh product was enclosed.
Silver too :hello2:
Congrats on a great day !!
