Was trying to find Indian artifacts. Any help identifying or tips on cleaning anything is greatly appreciated.

Were these things worth picking up? "Genuine Boyd's Cap For Mason Jar" Lid Liner, Spoon, Marble, Key and Unknown Item

Yes, but then when we go creeking, we usually bring out several bags of trash too!! (I can't help it, I'm a mom, can't leave glass in the creek, or plastic bags for the turtles to choke on!!)

Ask the bottle people about your mason jar liner, I think that's a good find!!!
Your spoon looks old - is it silver?
Your key is just neat looking, if it cleans up nice, would make a nice keepsake, display, necklace....
Marbles: always!
Unknown thing: sorry, still unknown!!! :laughing9:

If you can't find what you're looking for, at least you found some good stuff!!!!

Tigger, thanks so much for the reply. I don't know if the spoon is silver. How do I go about finding out?

I was able to find a bit about the lid liner. Seen some of the same ones on ebay and stuff. I'll make sure to post it in the bottle forum.

How can I look up the best way to clean items especially the key?

look on the back of the spoon for sterling... most will say silver plated...
I find those mason jar lids all the time... the metal tops, ring up as good stuff when I'm out hunting... they are inside the lid of a canning jar.

Your spoon has something stamped on the inside of the curve. It is partially visible in your first photo, but not in the second because your fingers are covering it. You may need to straighten the spoon before the writing becomes legible.

Scroll down to the "Cleaning and Preservation" forum, and read some of the posts there. Cleaning depends on what kind of metal, and whether it would decrease value to clean. some want to keep the patina on, some want to clean it up. Basically, start with the bare minimum, like soap, water....

Do you know what kind of metal the key is?

Once you wash your spoon up, see if there is anything stamped on the back of the handle. You may need a magnifying glass.

Good luck, I personally would clean both of them, but I'm a newbie too.

Thank you so much Tuberale. That stamp says "sterling"! Very hard to see especially with it bent.

Before I got a metal detector I used to walk creeks and woods and bring home everything. You'd be amazed at how many times you run and get your junk boxes because you saw a similar item on here that's been identified.

Nice finds. When I go out and I dig up a mason far lid I feel like I am closer to finding a stash somewhere that broke underground. So far I have found about 5 and I searched the ground around for anything else. Unless it is paper I wont be able to find it. I did know of an old man that said his father buried money on the property he lives on and never recovered it so he takes a probe and checks the area as he walks around from time to time and one time he stuck the probe by a tree stump and heard a crack and didnt think of it and the next yeard did it again and dug it up and he cracked the mason jar and the paper money was almost destroyed.

Here's what I do. I keep mysterious stuff. That way if I see a post someday on TN saying some thing-a-ma-jig is worth alot of money, I still have it!

The symbol on the lid liner tells me it was made by Anchor Hocking.

Thanks for the info. I almost forgot about that symbol.

Where would be the best places to go to find out the scrap value. I've never scrapped anything before.

Thank you everyone for the replies. This was my first post here and didn't think my items would get any response.
