That is definatly a civil war bayonet i was at the Carter house where the battle of Franklin Tn. took place today and there were quite a few of them in the displays all of them still being found around the area to this day .It definatly is a great find and keeper congrats!

cyn. thanks you did it again, it is a civil war bayonet. down to the u.s. stamp on the base that i did not see till i saw the pics

Yeah that's the real deal, CW period. I used to have one just like it (non-dug) but sold it a few years back. Don't ask me how much I got for it, because I honestly can't remember. I also used to have a Harper's Ferry musket, don't have that anymore either... :-\

That is amazing!!! I am from close to Spanish Fort and I would have killed to dig one of those!! Where did you find it? The only thing I ever dug was a few bullets and common stuff.
