Woohoo! Found my most awesomest US coin today, a really nice looking 1923-S Walking Liberty! :hello2:

Found it in a train cut a block from my apartment, which is the best spot I've ever found. It's also produced about 15 wheaties, my only two Mercs, and my only Buffalo, as well as a hefty gold ring, and various other artifacts and jewelry.

I had to do a triple-take when it came out! Was not encrusted or dirty at all, so my mind said "it must be a huge novelty token, or a remake, or..." but it sunk in that it really was a Walking Lib and I cackled like a witch for about a minute and shouted some select curse words in glee! I've gotta get to a coin shop to get something to put it in. WOOHOOO!!!

Congrats, I've never found one of those. I havent found that many nice coins but it seems when I have my mind starts doubting what I think I've found. "Ok relax its not anything nice". The whipped dog effect.

Thanks everybody! It's definitely my favorite coin so far! Sorry for not replying earlier but the forum wasn't working for me.

Yep! Well, not right on them, but on an embankment that had been cut out of the higher elevation for the train to pass through (tracks operated from around 1900-1970). The site wasn't an old station, but is where a ton of various people would hang out or do business (I assume) as it was at an old intersection for major streets. I've found the coins, plus toys, license plates, abalone shells (probably from an old Chinese vendor), auto parts, sawmill stuff, bottles, deer bones, shotgun shells, etc. etc. Part trash dump, part high-traffic area.

I guess part of what makes it so good is that the topsoil is generally eroding downwards down the embankment sides, so the surface never grows too deep to hide good stuff. Plus a city crew periodically 'dozes it when grass and vegetation gets too high. I've found coins 60 years old just lying right on the ground!

Happy hunting all, and may you a dozen Walking Libs yourself tomorrow! :icon_thumleft:
