Since you asked (you did say "penny for your thoughts", didn't you?) I'd say that was a terrific coin to add to anyone's collection. The hair detail, the wreath detail reverse are the big things collectors strive to find.

May be second large copper for you, but for most MDers, this would be the find a lifetime!

Nice one considering it is from a corn field. For those interested it is a Large 8 with a Deforemed A (A in America) known as a Sheldon 166 variety or Breen 32. Rarity 1, V. Common type.

If that did not have the die crack it would be extremely rare, but it does have the die crack thru the stem, ribbon, numerator and final 0 to the rim.

Congrats Moah-4me. Today I found an 1807 Draped Bust in a soybean field. Also my oldest dated coin.
First Draped Bust date is toast. Just wished I could find a "1700" coin. I guess New York really is older
that Pa. !?

Don

We can always count on Don to get a variety off those old LCs!. It may be a common variety, but it is not a common find. It is in great shape! Congratulations!

Awesome find! My oldest is still a 1909 Canadian large cent from next to a tennis court. I haven't hunted any farm fields yet.

nice one especially that it is not pitted and matted like they normally would yours still has the smooth texture, most likely because no chemical fertilizers were used on the field,
