Spent most of the day at my sister's,Niece's B-Day.Yesterday was my Co. picnic so I was Jonezen big time.Went down the road to the Elementary school(1962),found some silver there before but not today, instead I had a first for a Bicentennial quatrer and something I wasn't ready for.....East African Wild Life Society ....this thing is 2" in diameter and real heavy, pretty sure it's copper.Probably one of my most off the wall find's.Front pic look's like a Duiker(small deer in Africa).Totally threw me off......didn't expect this!!!Back side has the word's Klispringer's with a signature of Anthony Jone's I think.....Kinda made my day, something different......Help me out pgill......PBK, haven't had time yet.Thank's.......

The medal is from a series of 20 depicting African wildlife or game animals. The medals were struck by the Franklin Mint for the East African Wild Life Society in 1971-72 and were available in gold plated sterlng silver, plain sterling silver, and bronze. Anthony Jones was the sculptor who created the medals, and he reportedly traveled over 1,600 mlles in Africa in order to study the animals featured in the series. "Klipspringers" are the small antelope depicted on the front of the medal. (See below.)

Nice find civilman1 and when it comes to ID's (and finds) you and the PBK are really something. But then there's also...well, don't have time.

I seem to have a knack for finding the oddball (but nice) stuff. Most THers go to a site and dig Wheat cents, Mercs, Rosies, etc., but I dig mini balls, money clips, tie tacks, etc.

I dig the darnedest stuff but I like it that way sort of.

Congrats!

Badger
