BIG VICTORIAN GOLD BRACELET! & NEW GOLD RING..MUDFINDS:

Hi all!
Haven't posted in a while, been busy working,
everyone wants things done before winter :help:
Here's some stuff I got from the flats recently.
Probing in some pasty deep mud, I recovered what I thought was just a large wire ring, stuffed it in the junk pocket.
After my hunt was finished, I rinsed my finds at a nearby home and discover it is a bracelet, buffed it a little, and it got mighty shiny.
Stopped at my coin dealers shop on the way home,
it tests between 10 and 14K, weighs 27.8 grams,
and I'm guessing it's Victorian, nice snakeskin pattern :hello2:
Not enough gold...
I dig an 'Artcarved' 14K band at 4.3 Grams, My first plain wedding band.
(as I was pulling this, the adjacent homeowner was advising me to search another area of the bay, because 'nothing ever happened here, the water is too shallow'
Apparently, things did happen here, US Navy padlocks, numbered equipment tags,
lots of Spanish war era Ammo, & the '01-05 Artillery Cap pin found at this site.
Another ring, Copper Greek Orthodox I assume, Alpha & Omega....
An old Pewter coin/medal/planchet, no details visible under the pebbling.
Clockwork ratchet on a wooden shaft, that's an oldie.
A little dustpan, for sweeping crumbs from the table between courses :laughing7:
Various other items, no scrap pile pic today...
Nice mud hunting, seems if I give it a rest, new stuff comes out every time.
Thanks for looking! HH to you All

Bling Bling... sweet gold find there... Funny I was talking to my tectin buddies yesterday about the farmers saying there's nothing down there to be found, just an old well :notworthy: love to hear those words
Thanks All!
Hi Patriot,
This is funny! it was the second time the same man told me this.
last time was about 3 months back, maybe he knows about stuff there & would rather I not hunt.
Below High tide is public domain, but if a property owner was adamant, I'd go somewhere else.
There is treasure everywhere

That bracelet is sweet. I'm heading to Rochester next month and hopefully I'll be able to get in a little detecting to see what's under that New Hampshire soil.

Thanks All!
I got my metal testing kit yesterday, I practiced this morning on the bracelet
Same results as at the shop, 14K lasts about 8 seconds, 10k stays gold.
Anyone got an idea of age for this bracelet :help:
I'm thinking mid/late 19th Century...

Joeyfresh, PM me if ya wanna try some sites I know
HH All!

Thanks All!
Hispan, the PX ring is quite interesting, may have been lost by a Man of the Cloth,
It displays some ancient Christian Symbolism.

"Roman Emporor Constantine dreamed he saw a Chi Rho Christogram in the sky and heard the words IN HOC SIGNO ERIS, meaning "In this sign you will be the victor." He ordered the sign of Christ on his legions standards and shields. He won a great victory and later became the first Christian Roman Emperor."
Has anyone here recovered Coins from Roman emperor Magnentius (Son of Constantine) displaying the 'Chi Rho' ?
The ring pictured below is 4th Century, recovered from the finger of a father protecing his family from the great mediteranean earthquake of 365 AD.
approximately the same era as the coin.
I believe my ring is copper/bronze, same as the ancient one!
HH everyone

Re: BIG VICTORIAN GOLD BRACELET! & NEW GOLD RING..MUDFINDS:

Steelhead,
:thumbsup:Killer finds! Can't wait to hear what you find out about the ring and bracelet. It's crazy that people loose stuff where they do. You could understand the possibilities how it got there in the dirt but in the marsh or river? Probably didn't just fall off their hand or out of their pocket. Makes you ponder,?, the how,why and when. Or do you think that wasn't part of the mud flats when those items were lost?

Is this a site that you researched or just a convenient place for you to hunt? I live in Tidewater Va. And the marshes and rivers are in my backyard. I've been considering the same kind of hunting and any help that you wouldn't mind sharing would be greatly appreciated. If you want you could PM me.
Also I took a look at your Photo's. Very NICE .Appears you have time for more than one hobby!

Re: BIG VICTORIAN GOLD BRACELET! & NEW GOLD RING..MUDFINDS:

Thanks Stormsurge & Mainerelic!
I think the mudflat used to be a swimming area & the old items were lost.
The gold ring is 20th century (strike that. Artcarved started making the first 'Seamless'
wedding bands in 1850).
I think that 100 years back most of these mudflats were sand/shell.
that is what lies 6-12 inches below the mud today.
HH & best digs
