Re: 3 Merry Widows

Thanks for that. I now know what a Merry Widow tin is as I could not resist
the compulsion to look it up.
LOL, can only wonder why they were buried. Better have a look inside them?

Re: 3 Merry Widows

Perhaps tonking on a battlefield turned a certain couple on. And on and on. Check that Energizer bunny. Very wierd. Any sign of contents in the cans or had they been deceased in action. Don't suppose the lifetime expectancy in ground would be very long. Yes, look in side. Perhaps there was a $5 gold piece stored in each. It is only an assumption that it was a guy............perhaps? Retirement fund. Now that is one crazy thought.

I notice in the second picture that the tin says, "tested". I'm afraid to ask how they were tested!!

That widow must have been the happiest widow in the world. I can't understand why the widows were the merry ones. HH

Re: 3 Merry Widows

High Plains Drifter, Believe me, I looked inside all of them. Many of them had a residue from the decayed "product". What amazes me is that these things cost a dollar back then. I bet many folks in the 1920's didn't make much over $20.00 a week in pay..

Re: 3 Merry Widows

Kuger, Funny you mention turning them inside out. They were made of actual rubber and were meant to be reused. on a side note, there are other Merry Widows tins that have the three widows names on the face. Agnes, Mabel and Beckie.
