Got out with Gary(foundationhunter) to a long down the mountain dirt road to a cellar hole site (ps the walk back up stunk) Gary got a nice oval Civil war US boxplate,i got a few buttons, a bridle roseette,a key hole plate and this dated 1864 pewter eagle thing which i beleive is a presidential campaign pin. 2 portraits may have went in the oval portions and are long gone was a long hike but a good day.ticks were abundent but weather was gorgeous!

Re: 1854 PEWTER PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN PIN?

I think you might have two pieces of a campaign ribbon. Something along the lines of this. In your last pic, flip the thing that's over the over the eagle, it could be what suspended the ribbon.

If by chance I happen to be right (or even if it is just a pin) I guess it would be one party's presidential nominee and his pick for VP that was on it. (unlike the one I posted) Regardless, whatever it is, it's different, and a keeper. Will watch and see what it ends up being.

i'm confuzeled :icon_scratch: the thing above the eagle in last pic is made of brass and it's a suspender buckle.the eagle pin is made of pewter. you think those 2 pieces went together? :dontknow:

Well if your sure it's a suspender buckle and didn't hold a ribbon, then it's likely just a pin.

Just found this one, similar but obviously different.

I think it's a campaign pin for the 1864 presidential election, and could be very rare in any condition

My guess is it's 1864. If presidential related the election year in the mid. 1850s was 56, not 54. Plus it seems like there's a heck of a lot of Lincoln campaign memorabilia compared to other presidents around that time.

oh great ya just put a twist in this thread :laughing7: mine is pewter though, this description says brass.i swore before i cleaned it read 1854 or 64? i dont think it's an 8.but then again it is the same other than the metal content and those 2 nubs protruding off the ovals on sides.mine didnt have those.maybe in 1884 they used this design too? :dontknow:
