Very old ring, you can use the hallmarks to identify which year it was made. Probably shouldn't put it into the melt pile until you do, Sweet ring!

Thanks guys! Yes, Ruger is a first rate, American made firearm, offered at a good price, without sacrificing quality...I THINK the ring is 22 Karat. It rang in at 81, which is high for it's size. The only numbers I can make out are a bold 22, stamped looking. Have a who's a coin dealer who I trust and taking it down to him for scrutiny. Thank goodness he's working on MLK birthday, I can't wait until Tuesday. The ring weighs 7 grams, .24 Troy ounce, and if 22 karat melt price would be $383. My dealer friend suggested that I try and get more than melt from it, first. It has 3 other jeweler's marks on it, but my eyes just aren't good enough to make it out with only a cheap magnifying glass. We'll see what his Loupe says. I would hate to sell it, but I would also hate to NOT have another Ruger Revolver.... ...Guess this Gold bug is paying for itself a little faster than anticipated, I haven;t had it a week yet

You will love the new GB pro or G2......One thing I'm liking about it is it has a iron bar graph on the left of the screen. The VDI numbers are VERY large and easy to read. If I get an iffy signal, and the bar graph stays steady on passes from different directions, it usually isn't a pull tab but something coin like. I wouldn't have dug that ring but it stayed constant on the graph bars, and rang like a wind chime. It was only down 2-3 inches, Being an 81, it was right in between Copper/zinc cent (78), and Copper/clad dime (83). So I dug to see what an 81 might be........She's good in trashy and iron spots, too. Quiet. I almost like using the little coil more for general use, I got both coils.

Well I took it in for an expert opinion. We researched the marks on it. What I found is: The Ring IS.... 22 Karat Gold! (91.6% Gold) weighs .24 ounces Troy, was assayed Birmingham England and given it's Makers Mark in 1845! That makes it 167 years old. They offered me $348 scrap/melt price for it, but I think I will hold on to it for a bit. It is such a nice ring it should really be sold as jewelry. Wow, that sure was a rush finding this.
