Took the wife and kids to Venice Beach Florida today...high 70's. Did a little MD, but got nothing. We did get some Shark's Teeth however! Had a blast!
Venice Beach is a great place for prehistoric sharks teeth, I have been there myself and have a good size cup full of them, but they were all smaller teeth ranging from 1/2" to an inch long, then one day I saw something roll up on the beach as the tide came in and made a run for it and snagged it before it was pulled back in by the next wave. It turned out to be half a megladon tooth off one of those huge prehistoric sharks, really cool, it measures about 3 1/2" long.

Re: Shark's Teeth

Thanks everyone!

I kind of thought we would find these right on the beach...and I suppose you could, but to have better luck you need the basket rake.

I saw all these people with a wire basket (for lack of a better word) on the end of a pole. I asked one lady what they were for and she said for hunting sharks teeth.

She was nice enough to let me use one of hers and showed me the ropes. You go into the surf and scoop up sand from the surf line and swish it around in the basket until you have the larger pieces. She said teeth can be any color, but the black ones are the easiest to spot. The ones I got are pretty small compared to what she found. I needed to go out a bit deeper.

A whole lot of fun...you can look through the basket in the surf, or bring it to the beach and dump it for the kids to look through. I wish we had had more time.

I think we will go back next weekend, but leave earlier. It is about a 2.5 hour drive there.

Thanks again!!!

Bud

The only way I know of to find sharks teeth with a metal detector is if the shark got a gold filling!!! :laughing7:
