1856 1$ Gold Coin "LT"/ 1823 Capped Bust half dollar/ 1853 Half Dime

this 1853 Arrows half dime is my most recent half dime find... here is a close up pic of the half dime its in great shape..

the gold coin and capped bust half are coins I found and never posted on a forum before mentioned them last week and have gotten a bunch of messages wanting me to show them so here they are.

The gold love token was found in the middle of a town in a lot where they were tearing down a house in February 2006... tsgman was with me when I found it that day.
The capped bust half was the second capped bust half dollar found at a site here in Mo. they were found about 3 weeks apart.. March 2005

Nice finds, as always. Posts like this keep me going. If you want soil conditions that contrast with Missouri, come to Indiana. I often find memorial cents and Rosie dimes at 8 inches. Sometimes they are deep, sometimes not so deep. I was at an 1850's log cabin a week ago, got very deep signals in the rich, productive mid-west soil, but they were all common coins. I have a great detector (Minelab Explorer II), and it is frustrating to know that coins are down there, but beyond a foot depth...

Sorry to steal your post JD, but I just had to comment on this....

You are hunting in fill dirt there bud. I'm also here in Indiana (Muncie) and use an explorer as well. I can't imagine ANY soil & weather combination other than the beach that would allow a memorial to reach 8" deep naturally. I have seen 5 or 6", but never anything that deep.

hey JD you got an X-1 probe - bet you liike that for finding deep stuff and avoiding scratching coins! makes a big difference - huh?

You're pinipointing in that pic aren't you? I see you got some form comments.
Somehow i don't think you need any help but it sure makes for a comedy - listening.

JD, you dug that merc in that area where the pic shows you hunting. Man it was muddy that day! That lot was full of signals, old buttons, iron stuff and old bottles were just sticking out of the ground! We dug a lot of trash to come up with what we did. I am surprised that so many pro's are watching your posts so closely! Maybe they could come give us some lessons? Just think of all the stuff we could dig if we just knew how to detect as well as the professionals! I'm out. Tsgman

Think we all gotta rub JD's head for good luck next weekend before we all rush to the field :) Maybe I should stay home. My luck brought monsoon rain with me to Virginia and everyone had to pack up and leave or float away.

Wow JD, you got several finds of a lifetime right there!! Great stuff. You need to lay your collection out and take some pics.I am sure you have enough for a museum. :o
