met up with fastfrank today to hit some cellar holes.man were they pounded but we managed some buttons and yep after 25 plus years of detecting this coin has always eluded me for some reason.she ain't pretty but, glad to finally cross this 186? shield nickel off my want list.was a beautiful day and always a pleasure to hunt with Frank as well as the other forum members.
we'll get em next time Frank!

I have not been detecting anywhere near as long as you but now that you mention it I have never found a shield nickel...at least not that I know of...I've found nickel size coins that were to far gone to tell what they were.

Congrats on crossing that one off your list.

Awesome shield. Thought I had me one of those the other day but it turned out to be another buffalo. Buffalos tick me off for some reason. Kind of like finding wheats instead of Indians I guess.

Congrats to you on your Shield Nickle Dave. Looks like a 69 to me too.
Usually they don't come out of the ground that rough for me.
They say worchestershire sauce works good on cleaning nickles :dontknow:.

I guess all those coppers kept getting in the way of your shield nickel :tongue3: Congrats on yet another milestone...Would you ever guess you'd find a Chain cent before a Shield Nickel??!! Forrest Gump should have said metal detecting is like a box of chocolates. :thumbsup:
