Really nice finds!!
I tried same thing last year with a local pond near me that was drained, I took one step in what appeared to be just regular mud, and
I sank in up to my thighs in mud. I said oh SH__!!!! It tooked me a little while to get out. Needless to say, I haven't been back, but
I think I might try again (it definitely has dried up since.)
Anyway..congrats!!
