They are horse harness buckles from the 19th C.
The offset bar, iron pin with brass frame combination, screams out horse harness buckle.

That is exactly what Don Troiani told HEAVYMETALNUT a couple months ago - 19th century harness buckle. He said they are frequently sold on e-Bay as 18th century crossbelt plates.

The 1875 indian head on the other hand is sweet!

Exactly, if you want to sucker someone on ebay & get more money, then the myth is alive

But here on Tnet we know better, hopefully now more will know :icon_thumright:

I have to agree with Crusader on this one. This buckle has been in big debates. It is definitely not even close to being 18th century.

Keep the passion high!

I also live in NY and have found many and never have any come from a late 19th century sight.

An 1875 Indian Head is late-19th century. I hate to burst your bubble, but they do not seem to be 18th century.

You not bursting my Bubble!!! The sight the buckle came from was a battle sight in 1778 smart guy! The house that is on the property is 19th century and the Indian wasn't found near the buckle.
