Found my nicest looking (1864) Indian Head today. Also a few nice flat buttons.

Did a cellar hole hunt with Neil today, followed by a trip back to delightful sandy field to see if I could fish out a few more things.

The cellar hole hunt was difficult; thorns and iron plagued our efforts, but in the end we ended up finding several buttons and other odd iron objects.

I ended up returning to the other site, on my own, later in the day.

I dug a really nice Indian Head. The sand preserved it well.




The buttons are better looking than most I dig.

Yes, I feel there is more keepers hiding out there somewhere. It reminds me of the other field nearby, which also has fine sand, hence well preserved relics. Can't wait to get out there again!

Those indian heads are a work of art! Yours looks just perfect! I put a few of mine in olive oil for a little over a month upon the recommendation of a coin dealer near me and they came out really nice! You dont even need to do that!

Out of the 30 or so Indians that i have found over the years, about 90% of them are in very poor shape. But every so often you find a sandy site, and they pop out of the ground needing very little in the matter of cleaning. On the othe hand, there have been occasions where a site has harsh soil, yet somehow an Indian or some other artifact emerges looking fantastic. Crazy world!

That looks delicious. I ended up going late, and only had 90minutes of detecting time before the sun set. It was a pleasant but brisk hunt. The one button i found while with you has an interesting backmark pattern. I'll have to post a pic so u can see.
