UPDATE: Although I have yet to identify the specific use and age of this hook I found recently in a trash pit at a 1600s site, I did manage to finally get it cleaned up. After several days in the electrolysis tank amd 3 coats of poly it came out great. Turns out the top is actually 2 pieces bent together to form the loop, and it has 4 holes in it as well. Its also 9" long. If anyone has any clues as to what this might have been used for and its age please chime in. Thanks! (See new pics below.)

ORIGINAL POST: Got out for a short hunt late last week with my friend Dan, and then hooked up with Joey yesterday as a result of our interaction on this forum. Joey, it was a real pleasure to meet you and I can see where we certainly share a passion for all things colonial. By the way, congrats again on scoring another 1600s cob. Looks like the popular find for me recently has been colonial buckle pieces. Also dug a few buttons including this one very small flat button that looks like it has the number "20" on the reverse at the bottom (see close-up below). That's the first time I've seen anything like that. Anybody know what that represents? Also, while hunting Joey's site I thought I had dug into a trash pit when I found this large iron hook. The early bottle spout piece was wedged in the hook itself so I know the hook has to be colonial. Also found some brick mortar and a complete early barrel hoop in the pit, but not much else. Again, thanks a bunch Joey. I had a great time digging with you yesterday. Let's do it again soon.

Bill, I love all of the early buckle frags and I've been scouring the internet looking for i.d. on that iron hook. Do you have any idea what it is?
