I had a lot to do this weekend but got out three times for short hunts on this field. Found lots of musket balls, buttons, coins from the late 1800's to early 1900s, mostly average finds. I have hunted this field so many times and it always gives up some nice relics and today was exceptional.

Found this 1743 gold coin, my second gold coin find and I think this is the first gold keeper since the last gold coin 6 years ago, LOL. I thought it was a piece of foil when I saw it, LOL. Not sure where it is from just yet but I have seen them before. I was literally on my last run on the field close to the end. It's a little bent and scratched but here it is. The obverse.

Reverse. There is a Goldsmith in my town, if it is reasonable I will have him straighten it, he has done work for me in the past and he is reasonable.

Also found this 1893 Chicago World's Exposition souvenir medallion of Christopher Columbus, another very cool find as I have a silver half dollar commemorating the 1893 Chicago Expo. If you get bored, read up on the 1893 Chicago Expo, you will see some familiar names, cool history! Here's the obverse of the medallion.

Re: Gold coin and Christopher Columbus...

Congrats on a couple spectacular finds!
Gold Ducat Netherlands, may be one intended for local circulation, a bit fancier obverse scrollwork than the 'Trade' issues,
Though this varied somewhat through the years, 16th C to present .
I found one a couple years back and misidentified it as a trade issue, was a Dordrecht local.
the three letters after 'cres' to left of sword are the key to mint, & type, Hol=Dordrecht, Zel = Middeburg, Tra= Utrecht .
They are 23+k Gold and quite thin.
You had an awesome hunt! got my vote!! :headbang:

Just voted banner for the gold ducat as well. The clip ring at the top of C. Columbus may indicate a medal. Reverse of Columbus looks like Independence Hall in Philadelphia. I'm wondering how it made it to your site?

Beautiful color on that gold, I wonder if it is 24 K. Congrats on finding it on your last pass of the field! My vote is in.

Wow that is awesome Mike.

That field would take alot of yrs to hunt out. Still looking for my first gold coin. Really hard to find in the states. I have dug more holes than your average guy. But not yet. Maybe one day.

Congrats
