Tom's WW2 Quarry bottles and other stuff??

Hi ladies and gents,

I decided to have a swing in a forest not to far away which was used by the Aussie and US Army forces back in the WW2 days. The problem with detecting a quarry is its full of little rocks and that means digging is really hard -but my mate Tabfinder has helped me out and sent me his spare digging shovel (thanks mate!) which made my day a whole lot easier.

The plan was to locate anything that could help date and show evidence of troops in the area as there was a lot of rumours going around about this area being used for secret bunkers and tunnels, I have located a cave a few miles from this site which relates to this site too.

Please exuse the photos as they were taken with my phone.

Quarry pic showing the large slabs of concrete, see next pic for close up, there are 3 known slabs and I uncovered a further two smaller ones which I believe were used for some kind of structural supports as they metal thread coming out of them.

The 3 large ones might have something to do with a hidden bunker or tunnel that's suppose to exist in the area, i have found a cave a few miles away, and there are suppose to be a lot more hidden in the hills.

Old concrete slab, notice the shape also next pic is some writing, I don't know what it reads.

I found this Bottle and pull tab and bolt(not picture bullet shell from a .22 also found at location); the bolt actually lead me to find the smaller slabs

I found these old bottles sitting here like this, at 1st when i found the single old bottle by it self i thought that was a great find and when I found a whole bunch things just got better.

All that I can find about the bottles (clear long ones) is that they were made by Corks bros, by Allan Cork, not sure what the bottles held but they were used for a home delievery service the bottles read:

THIS BOTTLE IS THE PROPERTY OF CORK BROS BRISBANE

Allan cork from Cork Bros. actually built some WW2 structures for the government.

Cool finds, Tommi. I remember seeing small bunkers and observation posts still standing in some parts of Sydney in case of invasion so they are out there. A majority of them are on private property. Lots of U.S. activity in Queensland.

Don't think so. Just a large chain from sort of machinery. Tracks would have grips. Maybe it came from some equipment used to dig those bunkers.

It has enscribed upon it MURARRIE. Queensland Australia. Your phone pic is upside down and backward. It would not have been any fun though if it wasn't like that.

Pimp yep indeed, not far away from me some salavage guys pulled a whole bunch of weapons and plane parts from a dam.

whats this ? I found out with the MD- actually the MD was pretty useless as I didn't need it much at all and the ground was heavily rocked so digging was no fun.

In this pic I found a car in a trench not to far away, this old beast must be pretty old, it was actually torn in half with the engine/bonnet etc further down.

Congratulations on your finds. Looks like a frost outside tonight here where I am. Good news for me, perhaps soon that mountain foilage gonna be a goner. At that point great bottle potential awaits me. Going to have to finally sit down and start to learn my bottles and what to look for. More importantly how to extract without damaging.

cool finds man!! I hope you get to explore the area more. They only bottle I found was on an army post out here, and it all broken, but we all looked it up on the net. Turned out it was a part of some kind of german beer or something from the ww2 era. I would like to find some old bottles myself, but digging them up sounds hard. I'd prob just break them Let us know if you discover gold in those tunnels

For what it's worth, the vehicle pictured is a late 30's to late 40's. The shape of the rear fender area (the fender is missing) is similar to my 1948 Chevrolet (Holden in AU back then, I think). This fender shape was also used on pre-war Chevrolets (40 - 42). Not much to go on in the pictures... You said the engine/bonnet is near-by? That might tell me more.

I also found a reference on the Net to Cork Bros. as a soft drink maker...

Thanks for working out what car that is, it actually helps alot by dating the trench the car is in.

I hit the hills again but no luck with any finds, however I did find an area I was curious about when I was checking it out on google earth, however it was way to new to have anything historic about the site.
